DIY Deep Conditioner for Long, Lustrous Locks

Is your hair feeling dry and brittle? Have you noticed a lack of shine lately? Your mane might be in need of a deep conditioner. Deep conditioners nourish locks with a boost of moisture one can’t often get from everyday hair products. Though you could purchase your own deep conditioner at the store, why not make your own with a few household beauty and skincare ingredients? Here is a great recipe to try, in addition to a few variations.

You will need:

• 1/2 cup raw Shea butter (softened)
• 3 tablespoons coconut oil
• 2 tablespoons Jamaican castor oil
• 6-8 drops rosemary oil
• 4-6 drops tea tree oil

Instructions:

1. First, soften your shea butter. If you have a protective style, like box braids, melt the butter to prevent it from clumping into your braids.

2. Next, add in coconut and Jamaican castor oil and mix thoroughly with a spoon or mixer.

3. Add in the rosemary oil and tea tree oil and mix until well blended.

4. Finally, apply the desired amount of deep conditioner to your hair. Work into your scalp and edges if desired. Allow penetrating your hair for 30 to 45 minutes.

5. Once the time is up, rinse your hair to reveal rejuvenated hair. If you have extra deep conditioner leftover, transfer it to a mason jar or a sealable tin.

Though this is a great basic recipe, there are some variations you can try to suit your unique hair condition:

• If you want to soothe your scalp while hydrating your hair, add aloe vera gel to your treatment.
• Need more moisture? Try a mashed avocado or avocado oil, which contain fatty acids.
• Promote shine and increase softness with an egg.
• Worried about weighing down your hair? Opt for lighter jojoba or argan oil instead of castor oil.
