Step Into the Shoes of Tracy Turnblad When You See Hairspray This Weekend

Tony Award-winning Hairspray continues to be one of the most widely produced musicals today, not only because of its wit and charm but also because of the beautiful message of acceptance and progress that it portrays. You can see this bright, energetic story of Tracy Turnblad at Fort Worth Community Arts Center on Saturday, August 10th!

It’s 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, and quirky, plus-sized, teenage Tracy Turnblad has one dream: to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When she gets put in detention with the African-American students in the school, they teach her some of their dance moves, and her newfound groove wins her a spot on Corny’s show.

Overnight, Tracy transforms from a nobody into a star and uses her newfound influence to advocate for racial integration on the television show. Tracy faces scrutiny and bullying from the network producer, Velma, and her popular, but vicious, daughter, Amber. With the help of the teenage heartthrob Link, host Corny Collins, and Motormouth Maybelle, Tracy sets out to integrate The Corny Collins Show.

Hairspray – winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical – is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. Featuring hits like “Good Morning Baltimore,” “I Can Hear the Bells,” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” Hairspray is a musical that everyone will enjoy!

The Stolen Shakespeare Guild was founded to create a family of artists and audiences and is dedicated to exploring stories with enduring themes. Through affordable and diverse programming, SSG seeks to debunk the myth that Shakespeare and other forms of classical theatre are irrelevant to the modern audience. SSG always embraces the timeless masterpieces of William Shakespeare, the works from which he drew his inspiration, and plays that have been influenced by the Immortal Bard himself.

Get ready to groove during this weekend’s production of Hairspray! Tickets start at $17 and are available at http://www.stolenshakespeareguild.org.
